At Family Service of Chester County, we’re blessed to see the best of people. Each holiday season there is a wave of generosity—turkey drives, toy donations, and year-end gifts. It’s heartwarming, and it matters.
To everyone who has ever given, volunteered, or simply shared our mission: thank you. Your generosity has made it possible for families to find safety, strength, and healing. You've been part of lifting people out of crisis and into stability.
But here’s something I hope you’ll hold in your heart: the need doesn’t follow a calendar.
In fact, summer is often when the struggle deepens.
When school lets out, many children lose access to reliable meals, safe environments, and supportive structures. Parents—especially single or low-income caregivers—face impossible choices about childcare and work. A working mom may have to leave her kids home alone or patch together care she can’t afford. Without structure, some youth are pulled into risky situations, while families quietly face greater financial and emotional strain.
This is when programs like ours are most vital—and often, when giving slows down.
So today, I’m not asking out of urgency or scarcity—I’m asking out of hope. Hope that we, as a community, can remember that generosity doesn’t have to be seasonal. That your compassion in July matters just as much as it does in December.
Don’t forget your local nonprofits this summer. The need is still here. And so are we—doing the work, every day, thanks to you.
Stay safe,
Mark Butler, MS
Executive Director
