RSVP of Chester County hosted its 41st Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on Thursday, March 22.
The event was held at Radley Run Country Club in West Chester, and included entertainment from the always enthusiastic, Grateful Alive Band. Over 135 volunteers and honorable guests attended the luncheon and enjoyed the dynamic emcee performance provided by Burt Rothenberger, RSVP Advisory Council and Family Service Board of Directors member.
This year marked a new set of awards that were distributed to volunteers including:
Dynamic Newcomers: recognizing volunteers who have been active less than a year but have volunteered significant hours.
Venerable Volunteers: recognizing volunteers who are 85+ and still active!

Many Hats: awarded to Betty Peterson—Betty is out serving the Chester County community nearly every day. She volunteers at over 10 station partner sites that range from the American Helicopter Museum to Safe Harbor Shelter and the Devon Horse Show. Betty is an inspiration to all of us and we congratulate her on her tremendous efforts!

Centenarian: awarded to Fred Mack, Jr. – Fred just celebrated an amazing 101st birthday! He is a regular volunteer at the American Helicopter Museum where he designed and built a study center for children and helps with other volunteer activities. Fred is a wonderful example of the capability and vitality of senior citizens! We could not be more proud to call him a member of RSVP of Chester County.
Station Partner of the Year: awarded to Chester County SCORE– SCORE is an all-volunteer organization sponsored by the Small Business Administration and
provides free professional guidance and information to assist individuals in starting or growing an existing business. SCORE has been mentoring businesses for over forty years and its volunteers are committed to helping individuals realize the dream of owning their own business.
The luncheon attendees were privileged to be in attendance with a number of honorable guests this year, including the RSVP Advisory Council, RSVP Station Partner Volunteer Coordinators, Family Service Staff, PA State Senator Andy Dinniman, PA Representative Duane Milne, and Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone. Kathi has attended the Annual Luncheon every year since she was elected five years ago, and during her remarks she mentioned her appreciation of the tradition that the luncheon provides. Kathi said, “There is nothing wrong with Chester County that can’t be fixed by what’s RIGHT with Chester County—RSVP is RIGHT for Chester County!”
Attendees of the luncheon received gift bags from several local organizations; and door prizes from over 15 local businesses were also awarded. The luncheon was also partially financed by eight Table Sponsors including:
- American Helicopter Museum
- Friends Life Care
- Kendal Crosslands Community
- Brian Kruse—Merrill Lynch
- Phoenixville Community Health Foundation
- QVC
- Yellow Daffodil Wig Salon & Post Mastectomy Boutique

The event was a wonderful way to celebrate the work of so many dedicated Chester Countians—they are all young in heart and spirit, and we are grateful for their volunteerism!
